This is a genuine, complex translation. DrWatson protects commands, error codes, and log output while naturally translating the surrounding text. It’s translated once and saved.
Restoring an IDS 11.5 backup onto a secondary Linux server with ontape -p failed with "Fatal error in shared memory creation" and log messages "shmget: EEXIST ... shared memory already exists / mt_shm_init can't create resident segment." Replies explained that an instance was still running or had left shared memory segments behind, and advised shutting it down or running onclean -k (and checking SERVERNUM doesn't clash with another instance on the host). The poster resolved it by locating the segment with ipcs -m and removing it with ipcrm -m; the restore then ran.

We are trying to do a restore of our primary on the secondary. Version 11.5 on
Linux
We took a backup on the primary.
Moved it to the secondary.
When we run ontape -p
We get Continue restore y
backup logs n
oninit: Fatal error in shared memory creation.
WARNING: server initialization failed, or possibly timed out. See message log
In the log I see
IBM server started
shmget: EEXIST 17 key 52634801 shared memory already exists
mt_shm_init can't create resident segment.
What can I do to fix this? :(

Is the secondary server offline? If so, shut it down before starting the
restore.
If it is already offline, then it's likely left a memory segment in place
that needs to be removed. You can do this with ipcs, but it's easier (and
safer) to run "onclean -k". Just make sure that you are on the correct
server before running this.

Benji
You have segments in the shared memory , you can remove with : onclean -k

It looks like you already have an instance running on your secondary. If
you're trying to replace it and restart replication or something like that,
shut down the instance on your secondary before your restore.

Thanks for the quick response. I will give this a try
Also make sure the SERVERNUM in the onconfig does not match with another
server on the same host or you will affect the other server!

David.

Looks like my restore is now running
Had to run ipcs -m | grep 5263
Then ipcrm -m <#returned from above>
