Informix upgrade path

Hi Guys, Is there anyone aware during upgrade of informix 9.40 to 12.10 is it necessary to make an interim step with upgrading 9.40 to 11.70 then from 11.70 to 12.10. I'm planing to make export/import between 9.40 and 12.10 versions. OS will be different too. If it is relevant it's about MESA project.

Hi, if you do a dbexport/dbimport, it should not be necessary to have a step in between. The format will import in 12.10 without any problems, unless your table definitions are not compatible (such as new keywords ...). You should check that using dbschema, which results in a .sql file and create a new (empty) database and apply the schema. The upgrade path via a 11.x should be necessary for an inplace upgrade when you come from 9.4 version. If you export the databases under 9.40 and use 12.10 to initialize a brand new engine you can import the databases directly into v12.10 without any intermediate stop at v11.xx. If you want the v12.10 engine to be configured the same as the v9.40 engine (ie same chunks and dbspaces and logs) then you can use "myschema --infrastructure=cmd" against the v9.40 engine to get an equivalent script to the v11+ dbschema -c -ns output that you can use after running the v12.10 oninit -i to rebuild the dbspaces and logs. OK and Thank you very much ! yes I'm planing to initialize completly new engine - I 'm also planning to make also from stand alone server to SD secondary in Linux cluster.
