We have TCP/IP, | but not ODT. You need the OS, TCP and NFS. SCO practices creative bundling, so figure out what you lack, what it will cost to get it, and would a package be cheaper. | | 3. How well does Informix work with NFS? Do we need to get I-Net or some | such, or can we just mount the remote file system and pretend it is local? There's a restriction on that, but I don't know what it is. A locking thing as I recall, wait for someone else to give details. | | 4. How well does WordPerfect work with NFS? No worse than it does on the local disk. | | 5. How difficult to administer is NFS? If all machine are up all the time, no problem. Otherwise you should invest an hour or so in setting up your system to use automount, so things will run smoothly when other systems are down. | | 5. Are there any special factors I should consider? On the whole, what is | your opinion of NFS? NFS is plug-n-play these days. I run SCO, Linux, Dell, Netware, and PCs with SuperTCP here. There don't seem to be any tricks, people have gotten it right. Now, if you want to run PPP to a remote, you may see some subtle configuration stuff. Hint: configuration of name service on SCO is less than clear in the docs, I suggest using hosts files if you have a small number of machines. The "Network Navigator" package supposedly is better, but I haven't tried it. | | I will be contacting SCO with similar questions, but I wanted the input of | people who have actually been using NFS and who do not have an economic | stake in my decision.
