Subject: sqlhosts Newsgroups: comp.databases.informix Summary: Keywords: I need some help.I get the error message "908: Attempt to connect to database server (unix2_se) failed", when I tried to select my database from the "isql" Datbase menu. I checked the sqlhosts, /etc/hosts and /etc/services files and they look okay in conjunction with the INFORMIX documentations. "unix2_se" is our database server name. All the required environmental variables are set right. I am running INFORMIX-SE 7.x on SCO UNIX. I sincerely appreciate any help I get. -Kamil. kmohamed@mva.com
You are getting what I had a week ago on my Linux RH5.x box.
You probably need to go into your sqlhosts file and check to see that
you are connecting via TCP sockets using the sesoctcp entry.
Make sure that you have an entry in the /etc/services file.
Also make sure the env vars are set.
## sqlhosts
...
demo_se_tcp sesoctcp peever se_tcp
...
## /etc/services
...
se_tcp 1526/tcp #Informix SE ( SMM 1/24/99 )
...
##.profile
INFORMIXDIR="/opt/informix"
INFORMIXSERVER="demo_se_tcp"
Hope this helps....:)
