Same-same cascading deletes

Does anybody have Java source, 4GL, an SP or at least an algorithm/design that does, for the most part, what a cascading delete does? Our database has some pretty deeply nested inherited keys, and for a number of reasons, we can't create tables with constraints with this option. It would avoid our having to reinvent the wheel here.
