Re: Asian Language/Unicode support

Hi,
We use Informix Online 7.20 and I had a similar problem with a
application client/server.
For our client we use Powebuilder and not NewEra 2.2.
But, the default local was en_us.8859-1 and we encountered -202 error
when we managed the accent characters (like in France or Germany).
To remedy to this, I download (dbexport) all the data, drop the
database, set the variable DB_LOCALE=fr_fr.8859-1 and upload
(dbimport) the data.
After this my local was fr_fr.8859-1 and we can manage the accent
characters without errors.
Good luck
Stephane

I tried to store Chinese characters in Unicode UTF-8 format in my
database. I am using NewEra 2.2 running on Win95 and Informix Online
Dynamic Server 7.2 running on AIX. According to the documentations,
without specifying a locale, the default locale will be en_us.8859-1. I
managed to store some UTF-8 Chinese characters inside my database but
while doing searching with Chinese characters, I encountered -202 error
saying an invalid character in my search string. I could do this with
Version 5.
I have tried to play around with setting LANG, DB_LOCALE, CLIENT_LOCALE,
etc in GLS to try to get it work but still failed. Anyone here has
similar experience?
Also, I did find locale like en_us.utf8 in the gls/lc11 directory on my
server. Is there a full Unicode locale (not restricted to one language)
which all Unicode characters will be valid characters?
Thanks!
