Re: Logical Logs Archiving -Reply
Posted in 1996
I have noticed in that later versions that following an
outage of Online, you need to do an initial backup of
logs to a real file before Online will allow a backup
to /dev/null. I have presumed this to be a feature.(?).
Also although it has been stated in this group (and
also was my understanding) that ontape -c (or a)
does not need to run if logging is to /dev/null, we
need to do it here, or the logs will fill.
Once again I have presumed that this is either a
change in this version or both archive and logging
tape devices need to be set to /dev/null for the
automatic freeing of the logs to occur.

As far as I know, if the tape parameter of logical log
is set to /dev/null, then the log space will be
automatically reused.
You do not have to do ontape -a
Please tell me if I am wrong.
BY the way, I am using 7.11
All the best,
Alan.
