Cursory Procedures documentation
Posted in 1996
I was asked by the documentation team to forward this answer to a question posted a while ago on "cursory stored procedures." SQLS is the "Informix Guide to SQL:Syntax", and SQLT is the "Informix Guide to SQL:Tutorial." The 7.2 release of these documents contains many revisions, and is worth looking over for new information. Enjoy, Clem FORWARDED MESSAGE ---------- Here is some information on the documentation of cursory stored procedures graciously supplied by one of our writers. We're aware that our readers would like more examples in this area, and are working to make incremental enhancements to the manuals. >>SQLS 7.2 discusses cursory stored procedures under the RETURNING clause >>of the CREATE PROCEDURE statement (p. 1-138) and under the Usage >>section of the FOREACH statement (p. 2-25). Both discussions state >>that a cursory procedure can return multiple rows. The FOREACH >>discussion also gives an example of a cursory procedure. >> >>SQLT 7.2 discusses cursory stored procedures under the heading >>"Returning More Than One Set of Values From a Procedure" in the chapter >>on stored procedures (p. 12-28). The discussion implies that a cursory >>procedure can return multiple rows, and it gives an example of a >>cursory procedure. >> >>I don't know the answer to the question about an archive on the stored >>procedure language, but the sender of this doc report might not be >>aware of the SQLT chapter on stored procedures. This chapter has many >>examples of creating and executing stored procedures. ORIGINAL MESSAGE --------------- >>>Does anybody know what a Cursory Stored Procedure is? >>> >>>(Page 1-70, SQL Syntax manual, Version 6.0). >>> >>>Does it imply that if a stored procedure selects multiple rows they can >>>all be returned by the procedure? (that would be good!). >>> >>>Also, is there an archive on the much underdocumented stored procedure >>>language? Hopefully containing examples of complex stored procedures. ______________________________________________________ Clem Akins (aka clema@informix.com) Informix Software, Inc (Standard disclaimers apply) International Technical Support Last seen: in sunny Menlo Park, California
