Conversion error in Delphi
Posted in 2010
A Delphi app worked against IDS 9.40 but, after moving to IDS 11.50, CHAR(200)+ columns were being presented to Delphi as MEMO fields, breaking the application. The poster clarified the table definitions were unchanged and that only the OLE DB/OLE-based interface was affected — ODBC worked fine. Suggestions were to upgrade the Informix Client SDK (e.g. to 3.50), test the app afterwards, and to run coledbp.sql on the 11.50 server plus check the CSDK OLE DB manual for data-type compatibility notes. No confirmation from the original poster, so no resolution is recorded.

I have a Delphi aplication running under IDS 9.4x we have some CHAR(200) or more and works fine, when i migrate to IDS 11.50 that field automaticaly converts to a MEMO field, and that cause the aplication failed, any body nows something about that??? Thanks in advance.
Can you be a bit more specific? IDS upgrades won't change your table definitions... and "MEMO" isto not an informix datatype. Are you getting errors on expressions which include concatenation of char/varchar fields? What errors are you getting and when? What action causes the error? Regards. Sure , The problem was present only with the OLE/Integral interfase for the Delphi environment, the ODBC runs fine with out problems. The field does not change in the informix structure only when you use the OLE/Integral for Delphi you have the problem with other app. runs fine. The seame Delphi app. running with an engine IDS 9.40 runs fine, the problem is present with the IDS 11.50 Thanks in advance
I don´t know if it fits your situation, but we had an issue here that was solved upgrading our Informix Client-SDK version (to 3.50). That´s because the old version is not supporting the 11.50.X ids version, ok? Regards. Alexandre, The old version support the new database version, but you are not able to use new features.... and your write is highly recommended to upgrade the client, but, you have to test the application because could happen some issues. (more common where your are upgrading from the "oldest" versions) Grato, Best Regards Miguel Carbone +55 11 9634 7103 MC Software - miguel@mcsoftware.com.br International Informix Users Group IIUG Board of Directors - miguel@iiug.org See you at the 2010 IIUG Informix Conference April 25-28, 2010 Overland Park (Kansas City), KS www.iiug.org/conf Novo Endereço: MC Software Ltda. Hello Miguel ! Thanks a lot for your additional explainings. I thought there was a compatibility issue on this. Regards. Did you run the coledbp.sql in IDS 11.50 ??? http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/idshelp/v115/topic/com.ibm.cpi.doc/ids_ cw_024.htm Take a look on the CSDK OLE DB Manual, there have lot of information about upgrading and new data types compatibility and limitations...
