Mmmm. ON-archive and DLT's.... I would be MUCH more worried about ONarchive! It is still the buggiest, most broken piece of backup software that I have ever had the occasion to meet. We spent MONTHS designing a backup solution for a large database at my previous employer, and we used ONarchive. What a mess! I was just talking to my fellow DBA back at my previous employer, and he said it is still screwy. They have a dbspace that ON-archive couldn't back up. Informix worked on it, and couldn't come up with a solution. Luckily, it is an index dbspace which can be dropped and recreated. I won't even mention (although I guess I am) the test that they performed at SunSolve to restore the complete instance on another box. It failed. (Turns out there were Unix/Informix patches missing. In summary, OnARchive is SO bad that Informix has dropped it, and are in beta with Onbar, its replacement. Who knows when it will be ready... -- W.
