"Open-server like" capability

Hello all, We have this requirement for an application where we need to be able to "fool" the application to think it is talking to an Informix server, while in reality it would be talking to a gateway that accesses a legacy system. This lends itself very well to Sybase applications by using the Sybase Open Server which acts as a gateway and translates SQL queries and incoming and outgoing data. To the Sybase DB-library application, it is completely transparent. I'd like to know if such a capability to do so exists with Informix (including any 3'd party tools ). Specifically, we use ESQL/C, no stored procedures and we use cursors.
