Error 280 - IDS 7.31

I have a char(1000) in an IDS 7.31. I can't insert a string of more than 256 characters in this column. Error 280 - "A quoted string exceeds more than 256 bytes". Any idea to solve this problem different of upgrading the IDS. Thank you very much.

Hi, How do you insert ? With a static statement or a cursor (and host variables ?) ? Try using a cursor/preparedStatement. I have no environment here with 7.31, but I assume this should work. If not, you could try text datatype or lvarchar instead of char. You can do it using dbload or in a host language (ie: C using ODBC or ESQL/C, C++ using ESQL/C or the C++ library, Java w/JDBC, Perl with DBD/DBI-Informix, the new PHP interface, 4GL or one of its clones, etc.) using a host variable to hold the string.
