Did those of you who attended Informix's Solutions Portal '99 at the San Diego, CA Convention Center on July 19-22 see the following column in The San Diego Union-Tribune on Thursday, July 22, 1999? It's in the mail - and wants out by Diane Bell A messenger sent to collect the S.D. Convention Center mail found a surprise at the post office -- 24 boxes destined for the Reptile Show. All the boxes were chirping. Turns out, they contained the food supply - live, very noisy crickets - for the show's many snakes, lizards, and other reptiles. The post office put its foot down: No mail for the convention center until the Reptile Show's sponsor picked up the crickets... But that wasn't the end of the convention center's troubles. At show's end Sunday (July 18) the snake inventory was two short. The next day, a service worker found one of the escapees, a four-foot-long Mexican corn snake, slithering around some pallets. Fugitive No. 2 was discovered in the same area yesterday (Wed, July 21). "Well, we weren't really panicked.", reported the center's Fred Sainz, "but we weren't reaching into any dark crevices, either".
