I assume you are speaking here of HDR. A comprehensive discussion
of HDR as well as detailed steps on setting up HDR is given in
Chapters 25 and 26 of the "Administrator's Guide for Informix Dynamic
Server" (available on the Informix Web Page).
There are several prelimary steps (mostly dealing with testing
connectivity between the two server instances) before that command
"onmode -d primary ....."

You really need to RTFM. While Informix manuals are generally excellent, the chapters on HDR are exquisite. Examine the "Admin guide" of your version at http://www.informix.com/answers Rudy
