Netscape NSAPI Informix application core dump on HP-UX
Posted in 1998
We are modifying our application to be Y2K compliant by upgrading all the layered products our application depends on. Our application formerly ran on HP-UX 9.04, Netscape Commerce Server 1.1, and Informix 7.11.UC1. We need to run it on HP-UX 10.20 using Informix 7.23.UC11 and Netscape Enterprise Server 3.5.1. Several other projects will run on the same servers, so we don't have the option of changing that configuration. The application is a server plugin (NSAPI) that uses ESQL/C to access data from an Informix database. The server runs the plug-in in a thread, so we have compiled our Informix ESQL/C code with the -thread compiler option to generate thread-safe code. We did a "clean" installation of the Netscape Server - no previous version of the server existed on the box before the installation. We were having core dumps, which would bring down the server port. We added some patches that Netscape recommended, one of which would restart the port after a core dump. The patches we added were 3.5.1B, 3.5.1D, and 3.5.1G. With the patches installed, we got warnings in the Netscape server log file about a mismatch between versions of the Netscape executable and the shared library. At that point we had fixed some problems that should have been the source of the earlier core dumps, but our application was still core dumping. We suspected the patches and reinstalled the Netscape server without them. The warning message in the log file no longer appeared, and we were still core dumping. We added one patch back that we were sure we would need - the 3.5.1D patch, the one that restarts the server after a core dump. Adding this patch did not reintroduce the warning in the log file, so we have kept this patch, but not the others. We have analyzed the core file (strings core >core.strings) and found the following messages: /usr/lib/dld.sl ERROR: mmap failed for dld.sl terminated, shutting down caught SIGSEGV or SIGBUS, trying to dump core in current directory We put in tracing code that would display the progress of the code up to the point of the core dump. We determined that the code runs fine until we hit our first ESQL/C line: EXEC SQL DATABASE :database; and core dumps immediately. We have tried replacing this line with an explicit connection to the database: EXEC SQL CONNECT TO :database as 'con1'; and we still got the core dump on that line. We have looked in the Informix logs and found nothing suspicious. Is there: Some Informix configuration option we are missing? Some trick to installing Netscape Server 3.5.1 (have previous version first, etc?) Anything we need to do to our NSAPI code (designed for Commerce server 1.1) to make it work with Enterprise server 3.5.1? Some HP-UX configuration we're missing? -- -- Jon Egan -----------== Posted via Deja News, The Discussion Network ==---------- http://www.dejanews.com/ Search, Read, Discuss, or Start Your Own
