please help: PHP with Informix functions

I'm trying to recompile PHP to use the Informix functions. I have a Caldera
eServer 2.3 Linux system, which mostly uses rpms. The rpm for mod-php3
doesn't enable the Informix functions, so I got the tarball from the PHP
site and tried to recompile it.
I'm using Foundation 2000. INFORMIXDIR, INFORMIXSERVER, and
/opt/informix/bin in my PATH are available in the environment, as well as
LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/opt/informix/lib:/opt/informix/lib/esql . I have ClientSDK installed.
When I tried to recompile mod_php3, everything in the compilation seemingly
went fine. I verified that my apache httpd.conf file had the correct
LaodModule, AddModule, and AddType lines for PHP. But when I tried to
restart Apache, I got an error message that said that Apache couldn't load
libphp3.so into the server because
"/opt/informix/lib/esql/libifos.so: undefined symbol: ifx_checkAPI "
Has anyone run into this one before?
Hello,
I hope I can help ( although using Linux on a Suse Edition ):
I think you have to include the dynamic Informix libraries not by
LD_LIBRARY_PATH but
by the ldconfig - mechanism :
edit the file /etc/ld.so.conf by adding the full path for your Informixlibs
$INFORMIXDIR/lib and $INFORMIXDIR/lib/esql
and then run the command ldconfig.
If it works, be happy
Regards
Klaus

I tried it; after that I also tried Ix tech support and they told me that the ifx_checkAPI symbol is defined in /opt/informix/lib/esql/checkapi.o . My compilation is finding checkapi.o ; the file is mentioned by name in the libraries section of my Makefile. The compilation seems to work. But when I try to actually run apache using the newly compiled version of mod_php3, it won't run because it thinks that ifx_checkAPI is undefined. Anyone heard of this one? I think that that's as much as I'm going to get from Ix tech support... (it was actually nice that they told me that much since I only have installation support).

Even though I also have compiled the Ix libraries into ld.so.cache.
