Current: Sun Enterprise 6000 dedicated database server, solaris 8 - patch level current; hardware mirroring; 4 attached arrays; various mixture of disks old and new; 1 instance at 430 gig. Due to recent growth, a new server has been purchased: Sunfire 6801 that can support up to 4 domains; solaris 9; 64 bit; Sun Storage Array Network RAID-5. I am expected to 'migrate' the database to the new server. This move will be a drastic departure from the current setup. The database will have a dedicated domain not a dedicated server and will share the storage array network with the sas users and probably others. I'm told there is no need to be concerned about I/O - this new technology (s.a.n) will take care of everything. I have too little knowledge of the storage area network to be comfortable with that statement. Any documentation or advice regarding implementation of the storage area network would be greatly appreciated. thanks John Campbell sending to informix-list

I posted my quarterly enhanced NO RAID5 RANT just two weeks or so ago. Look for it in the archives.
