I guess this would be the easiest way to handle it. Since you only have
to do it once for each database, there is not much sense in investing too
much effort in creating an automated process.
I have done imports from Foxbase to Informix a few times. One problem I
encountered was that Foxbase prints strings enclosed in quotes, which I
had to strip before doing the dbload in informix. No problem with sed.
I would consider redesigning the database when doing the transition from
dBase to Informix. It could be valuable to fully normalize the data model,
which often is not the case in dBase.
