Termcap problem

Hi I'm using Informix 7 on a SCO Open Server 5.0.4 platform, having recently moved from Informix 4 on AIX. I appear to have some kind of termcap problem in that when the users type a pound sign (£) in a character field, the cursor moves back one position and does not display the required character. I'm using PCs running ansi emulation and the ansi TERM definition. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Frustrated of Stroud.

The most likely cause of this is that the terminal settings still use the pound/hash/octothorp # (or £ on some systems) character as the delete character, so when you type it, the system interprets it as a delete character -- what you describe matches this exactly. What isn't so clear is that this is an archaic hangover from the days when Unix ran on high speed 300 baud and lower speed 110 baud hard copy terminals. Most systems have quietly rigged the default erase (or delete) character to backspace, but that is quite typically done through /etc/profile or something similar running stty to set the erase character to backspace. You can verify my hypothesis by looking at the output of 'stty' or 'stty -a' when you aren't running any I4GL program. -- Jonathan Leffler (jleffler@informix.com, jleffler@earthlink.net) Guardian of DBD::Informix v0.60 -- see http://www.perl.com/CPAN #include <disclaimer.h>
