We have an IDS version 10 installation containing a number of dbspaces. We have created a database on each dbspace eg dbspace1 database1 dbspace2 database2 dbspace3 database3 Is it possible to restore a database (eg restore its correspondig dbspace) to a point-in-time without affecting the other dbspaces/databases? IBM have told me that this is not possible and you must restore all dbspaces wihtin an instance. If this is the case, it is a bit of a bummer. Michael

Even if you put your database only in one dbspace, you can still.mix and match dbspace usage on database, table and even column level. Since you use v10 one way of helping your problem is using table level restore. Check Chapter 16 in Backup and Restore Guide.
Hi, yes, this is the case. But is it a bummer? Well, on your system you have this separation of databases by convention. But there is nothing in IDS which would enforce such a convention. Therefore IDS has to assume that logical consistency can be guaranteed only if all dbspaces are restored to the same point in time (PIT). You can do a PIT restore, but you would have to restore all dbspaces to the same PIT. The compromise is to restore to a different instance (an instance just for the purpose of the restore). You can restore just the critical dbspaces plus the dbspace you are interested in. And this restore you would do to the desired PIT. Then you can access the (lost) data, export it or whatever ...
