The systems are > physically linked (the terninals are emulated on PC's on the > network) We do something similar. We use the Informix SE and: 1. An ODBC pack. 2. Informix' INET for Windows (NOT DOS). 3. Informix' INET for UNIX (specify your flavor). 4. A variety of Winsock TCP/IP drivers for the PC (we have several, some better than others.) 5. Novell 3.x Netware for the PC. The ODBC pack is required to translate between Informix and ODBC. ODBC talks to INET on the PC. INET is needed at both ends to provide Informix PC to UNIX connectivity. TCP/IP is required because our UNIXs speak only TCP/IP. Novell Netware is required because the file server speaks only Novell. So the PC winds up speaking both TCP/IP and Novell. It accesses the Access database on the file server using Novell. It accesses the Informix database on UNIX via ODBC and TCP/IP. (Note: if you have a router in the loop, it has to speak both TCP/IP and Novell.) Sounds complicated, and it is. INSTALLATION ORDER IS IMPORTANT. Read all installation directions. After the first round, go back and read them all again. KEEP NOTES. KEEP READING until you understand all the dependencies. Only then start the installation. This setup is not for the faint of heart. Maximum persistence is required. And it can be made to work. After the installation you will have to do some Access administration. This is rather straightforward. :-) Our UNIX server is down or I could supply more details (disk crashed last week and the new one is still being installed/restored). Sigh. Good luck.
