thank all!! I think the question is wrong!! The situation is "Informix 5" database with "tbtape ". Does it support to prompt the message to load another tape with bigger data?? -- Dimerco Data System Corp. Yes; ontape is simply tbtape renamed.

Your previous replies are relevant to tbtape and Online5. The tapesize is govenred by the tbconfig parameter. If the tape is smaller than this value your backup will be corrupt and fail. As a rule its best to st the tape size to less than the actual media size and then you'll get prompted to change the tape.
