Re[2]: Problem with "Changing data structure forced command
Posted in 1998
We've experienced this problem (v 7.23UC6).
After much frustration (at not being able to use onstat commands
effectively), we finally nailed it down to an incorrect 'shmmax'
setting.
If the 'Resident Memory' size is greater than 'shmmax', more than 1
shared memory segments are created (in Unix) for it [check using ipcs
-m]. This appears to be the root of the problem.
Solution : Modify your kernel parameter 'shmmax' to the informix
recommendation. Alternatively, reduce the size of your Resident Memory
segment.

I experience the problem all too often. I'm sure it is a bug in the version
I'm running (7.23.UC1). I only see it when there are networked connections
(ODBC or not). I think it concerns sessions connected from hosts with
hostnames which exceed 8 characters in length. I believe it's fixed in 7.30.
