Re: Informix stock

I won't comment on the stock, but SQL server and Informix comparison is something I got to vent about. The only thing that Microsoft has an edge over informix on NT is the fact that SQL server and NT are from the same vendor. That said, informix 7.30 on NT is one kick ass server. One of the main complaints I used to hear in the past was Informix's lack of tools, but 7.30 has some really cool tools on NT. So much so, we migrated most of our backoffice apps. from SQL to Informix and our performance monitor no longer shows a constat CPU usage line at 100%! SQL server cannot scale beyond 10GB, and if you miss running checkpoints on any large table, be prepared for unpredictable results(e.g. one of my clients' table had an identity field, similar to serial in Informix, and the value was reset without any warning!) One of other clients had about 10 simultaneous executions of a very simple stored procedure and each user had to wait an average of 3 minutes for a response! Need I say more, I can go on forever!! And God help you getting support from Microsoft with SQL server, there's simply no comparison for Informix's support, if you've paid for it that is. Microsoft knows where to pinch to get their products moving. If only Informix had half their marketing talent! But any technically savvy manager that has the budget would appreciate the real deal. And that population seems to be growing. I don't own any Informix stocks, neither do I own Microsoft's stock! On the contrary, as I much as I hate Oracle's market share, I own their stock. Business is different from sentiments, right? Arun Boris wrote: > Is there any hope at all that Informix stock will go up?
