Row/Index Locking question
Posted in 1996
I am running Informix 7.11, and am in the process of creating a database with row level locking. I have this great vision of how the locking works between the data rows and the index, unfortunately my visions aren't always what they're cracked up to be. So I though I'd ask other visionaries. I believe in Informix Online Dynamic Server, they use a method called "key locking". If a data row is locked, I believe only that item (lname/rowid) in the index is locked. Am I straight so far? Someone asked me if a "row" or a "page" in the index is locked when a data row is locked. Because Informix uses a B+ tree structure, there really isn't a concept of rows and pages. It is broken down into nodes and items, right? Any hints/comments (you're a moron it works like this...) would be very helpful.
