Re: Best Way to Compare Informix Databases

What you need is dbdiff2. This is available from www.iiug.org. Not only
does it compare the schemas, but it generates the DDL necessary to make one
database look like the other. Download now and you'll also get the ability
to compare the indices, permissions, constraints - oh well I forget all it
does.
Some day soon (I've only been saying this for the past 9 months or so) I'll
make the 7.x version available. Maybe I should take a leaf out of the MS
notebook and call it dbdiff 97^H8. Meantime the version out there (built
for 5.x) will run for all existing versions of Informix databases, it just
won't handle all the new catalogues which the 7.x version does.
You will need 4gl to run it.
cheers

Subject: Best Way to Compare Informix Databases
What is the best way to compare two informix databases?
My current approach is to run dbschema on both databases, then diff the
output.
However, since diff only does a line-by-line file comparison, one
difference
between the databases causes a domino effect in the line-by-line comparison
of the schema output.
Does informix have a built-in tool that would provide a better way?
Any help would be appreciated,
Tim Owens
