RE: IDS 9.4 on XP64

The .cmd file to setup the environment (created by IDS) contains this line:
set INFORMIXDIR=C:\\PROGRA~2\\Informix
This is equivalent to "C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Informix".
I can cd %INFORMIXDIR% just fine.
All 32 bit software gets installed in "Program Files (x86)".
Since the OS and the AMD64 are designed to run 32 bit code, it would seem to
make no difference to the IDS.
However, we have a laptop with an AMD64 running XP pro (not 64) and it runs
IDS 9.4 like a charm (and quite fast, I could add).
Also note that I cannot make a connection to ANY database from XP64 except
MySql (not even SqlServer).
The odbc driver for MySql is 32 bit code, like the rest, so what's up with
that?
Why would Microsoft crap on itself by releasing an OS that does not work
with its own rdms?
Their web server (IIS) will not even install on this OS. (and IIS comes on
the same CD as the OS )
I can hear the chuckles now from the Unix people here. Don't hurt yourself.
Anyway, I don't know if/how these problems are related to one another.
It may be time to wipe it clean and install Windows 2000 or XP32.
I miss Solaris, but I cannot get away with that anymore. :0{

I don't know if this is your problem but check where INFORMIXDIR is set
in the registry. If it's different to a 32-bit system this could be why
you're having problems. As I've never tried running IDS on a 64-bit
system I don't know whether this is the problem or whether you can get
around this. Even if you can, is this configuration supported?
Ben.

"Why would Microsoft crap on itself by releasing an OS that does not work with its own rdms? " Because they are shit. Yeah install XP32. XP64 is too new to have any real support from vendors. It is even offiicially out yet or are you working with beta versions?
