Installing Informix from scratch

I'm trying to get some experience installing Informix 10 on our Disaster Recovery server. We use a product called Jenzabar CX software that runs on Informix. We run our production server on HPUX 11i version 2 on an HP 9000 platform. We recently purchased a scaled down server for Disaster Recovery and I'm practicing installing Informix for the first time from scratch. I'm using the CD from the vendor which runs a install script. I've used similar CD's from the vendor on our production server when we upgraded from 7 to 9 and 9 to 10. I had some assistance from the vendor and it was all straight forward. But Informix was already on the system with all the dbspaces and chunks. Well, the new system does not have any dbspaces or chunks. Just the UNIX file system. So my question is how easy is this to set up for the first time? I want to have close to the same configuration that is on my production server. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Once I get the server in place and Informix installed and upgraded, I will be looking into replication. We have a 10 MB pipe between our University and the D/R site. But this is in the near future. I want to get good experience with installing Informix from scratch. The D/R box is a play ground for now with no production data. Installing the software is only part of it. It's up to you to figure
out where you want your disk partitions, create them, create links to
them to use for adding dbspaces/chunks and set the owner/read/write
permissions for them.
Then you can just do a restore from a backup tape or you create the
whole instance from scratch using 'onspaces' (create chunks/dbspaces)
and 'onparams' (to add TX logs to spaces).

Thanks Bob,
So here is what I believe I have to do before I can attempt a restore from
production to D/R.
* Build the logical volumes in HPUX where the dbspaces will sit
* Create the dbspaces similar to what is on production
* Restore the databases from production
When I run a dbspace on my production box, here is what I have
Name KB Size KB Free KB used Percent
root 2048000 1042500 1005500 49%
dbs0 6144000 5555094 588906 9.6%
temp1 512000 511594 406 0.1%
temp0 512000 511578 422 0.1%
Since I have the basic part of Informix installed, there is enough on the
box where I can build the chunks/dbspaces using onspaces? I guess I will
try to get some documentation on building these.

You do NOT have to build the dbspaces nor the chunks using onspaces, the
restore will take care of that and will overwrite anything you do manually
anyway. All you have to do is to make sure all of the chunk links exist and
point to disk structures at least as large as the source chunks.
