RE: Sluggish connections between NT Client and IDS on NT
Posted in 2000
Steve, Is it the authentication or the resolution of the host name that is taking the time? It sounds remarkably similar to a situation I experienced where the TCP/IP clients were configured to use DNS, but DNS could not resolve the host name and WINS was used only after the DNS timed out... Try a hosts file and see if that improves performance. (IDS does a reverse lookup so this would need to be done on the server as well....) Is the PDC / BDC on the LAN or WAN? and is not too busy? The OS calls to validate a user are not smart on NT - all usernames returned. This takes time. Configure a PDC with as few users as possible. The environment that I am has less than 5 connections. The sluggish connections has through ODBC and via Ilogin utility. Below is an overview of my configuration.
