3.76GB is the number I've seen (and used) for Solaris 32bit. cheers j. -.-- --- ..- / -. . . -.. / - --- / --. . - / .- / .-.. .. ..-. . .-.-.- / ... --- / -.. --- / .. .-.-.- ----- Original Message ----- From: "Art S. If I'm willing to create smaller segments (down to 4 bytes) I can attach 3.9232GB. It seems to be an address space problem. The OS cannot find any free address range blocks big enough to map the next segment into. The test program trys to allocate then attach segments of a given size. No allocation fails, but eventually an attach fails. When that happens the program divides the segment size in half and tries again continuing until the segment size is 2 bytes long. Test run on Solaris 8 starting at 32MB (32 * 1024^2) I can attach to: Size #segments -------- ----------- 32MB 113 16MB 0 8MB 1 4MB 0 2MB 114 1MB 1 512KB 114 256KB 345 128KB 1 64KB 334 etc. Total attached: 4212523008bytes (3.9232 * 1024^3).
