Translating with DrWatson… this can take a few seconds the first time.
This is a genuine, complex translation. DrWatson protects commands, error codes, and log output while naturally translating the surrounding text. It’s translated once and saved.

Write the function for ESQL/C calling conventions, then put a wrapper round it
to call with 4GL conventions i.e. provide a second routine calling the first
but using pop and push communication to 4GL. The disadvantage
is that the function then appears to have different names in 4GL
and ESQL/C.
Alternatively, use 4GL calling conventions even when calling from ESQL/C. You
would call the ESQL/C function from C in the same way you would call a 4GL
function.
