Please see the following specs sent to me by one of my clients: Object-based or object-oriented design and implementation. Experience with second generation object-oriented development languages such as Smalltalk, Forte, or (especially) Informix New Era is highly desirable. Client-Server design and implementation. Almost all of our work focuses on client- server environments. It is critical that candidates have a strong understanding and experience in this area. At a minimum we would expect candidates to have some experience in two-tier design and implementation. Ideally, experience or at a minimum familiarity with three-tier design would be a major plus. Relational database design and implementation. Since most of our projects and all of our current slots employ relational database technology, this requirement is a must. Ideally, we would like to see candidates with several years experience with Informix products ('standard engine' or even better, 'on-line.'). After Informix, we would consider a strong background in Sybase or SQL Server to be a strong point. Experience limited to Oracle products, while it would meet the minimum requirement, is not a strong point. Operating system environments. Compared to two years ago, our projects are considerably less likely to require an in-depth familiarity with UNIX. Nonetheless, at least some experience in a UNIX or Windows-NT environment is highly desirable. Candidates with no experience outside mainframe or IBM-mini environments or those whose backgrounds are limited to PC-based environments are probably not acceptable. Analytic skills. We would expect candidates to have strong analytic skills and be able to function in a quasi-independent fashion in translating customer requirementrs into finished products. In terms of compensation, we are not especially rigid in our standards, preferring to evaluate the qualities of candidates on an individual level. However, as guidelines you can assume that a staff consultant's annual salary would range from $35,000 to $45,000 and a senior consultant would earn between $45,000 and $60,000 per year. These figures do not include profit sharing which has traditionally added several thousand dollars per year to annual compensation. On a contract basis, we are prepared to spend between $28 and $35 per hour for commitments of several months. Fax a resume to Brian Darnell at 615-360-2030 for immed consideration.
