Unfortunately I do not have any other java applications to compare its performance with. I would definitely choose UNIX over NT, but I am quite biased on that topic. As far as saving man years of development, I just do some DBA work on the site and help out with trouble shooting performance issues I am not familiar enough with the application to realize what work it saves.
