ER between different platforms
Posted in 2009
Poster tried setting up Enterprise Replication across mixed platforms/versions (Linux IDS 10.00.FC9, Solaris and AIX IDS 11.50) and 'cdr define repl' for a mastered replicate failed with 'This feature of Enterprise Replication is not yet supported (101) / unable to connect to server (5)'. Madison Pruet explained the cdr utility must be run as user informix and from the most recent server version — using IDS 10's cdr against an 11.50 node fails. Running cdr from 11.50 made ER work. A follow-up problem, 'cdr check repl' failing on Solaris with idschecksum.so not loadable, drew a suggestion to run the check from 11.50 (which has built-in checksum), but no confirmed outcome is recorded.

Hi,
I am testing IDS ER replication between different servers (linux, aix and
solaris) without success. Nowadays all our production servers are GNU/Linux
x86 and IDS ER replication works well. We are planning to migrate our OLTP
central server to a new Sun or IBM server. So I am testing IDS ER between
Linux - AIX
Linux - Solaris
without success. For example when I want to add a new Solaris IDS to ER I
got the following error:
informix@suxdes1:~$ cdr define repl -c g_suxdes1 -u -M g_suxdes1 -C ignore
-S row -A tablatest \\\\
> "P fedefarm@g_suxdes1:informix.tablatest" "select * from tablatest" \\\\
> "R fedefarm@g_suxdes2:informix.tablatest" "select * from tablatest" \\\\
> "R fedefarm@g_solaris:informix.tablatest" "select * from tablatest"
Verification of fedefarm@g_suxdes1:informix.tablatest started
Verification of fedefarm@g_suxdes1:informix.tablatest is successful
Verification of fedefarm@g_suxdes2:informix.tablatest started
Verification of fedefarm@g_suxdes2:informix.tablatest is successful
Verification of fedefarm@g_solaris:informix.tablatest started
connect to fedefarm@g_solaris failed
This feature of Enterprise Replication is not yet supported. (101)
command failed -- unable to connect to server specified (5)
IDS conectivity is working between servers, because with dbaccess I can
connect to every server without problems
I have the following questions:
- First of all: ER works between different platforms?
- ER works between diferent releases of IDS (for example 10 and 11.5) and
also with diferent platfforms ?
Any advices, pointers, sugestions will be welcome.
Thanks,
Marc

You will need to run sync and check as user informix. It has to be abl=
e to
examine and compare tables on all of the nodes.
You will need to use the cdr utility on the most recent server. I'm
guessing that you used the cdr utility on the 10 server to try to execu=
te
the define replicate. Since you are defining a mastered replicate, the=
cdr
utility will attempt to connect to all of the servers to verify that th=
e
tables match. If you use the cdr utility from IDS10, then you will not=
be
able to process on the IDS 11 server.

Yes! you are right. I used cdr utility from IDS 10 . Tomorrow I will test in
IDS 11.5

Hi,
after following Madison's advices the ER replication works ok between
GNU/Linux and Solaris, the only exception is the command
cdr check repl
on Solaris server online.log shows the following error:
10:25:00 Loading Module <$INFORMIXDIR/extend/checksum/idschecksum.so>
10:25:00 (2): The C Language Module
<$INFORMIXDIR/extend/checksum/idschecksum.so> can't load
reason: Cannot access library file
10:25:00 (-1): ERROR: Loading Module
<$INFORMIXDIR/extend/checksum/idschecksum.so>
I have some related issues with idschecksum after migration from 10DC8 to
10FC9 and I solved them executing the script
$INFORMIXDIR/etc/idschecksum.sql on all databases that replicates via ER.
But on solaris box (IDS 11.5) this sql script don't exist, so I copied it
from other machine but know the library idschecksum.so is not present.
Any advices?
Many thanks,
Marc

Did you try to run de cdr check repl from 11.50? it looks like your log file
is a pre-11.50. That could be your problem.
Cheetah has a built-in checksum, you don't need to set up anything.

Subject: Re: ER between different platforms [15210]
Hi,
after following Madison's advices the ER replication works ok between
GNU/Linux and Solaris, the only exception is the command
cdr check repl
on Solaris server online.log shows the following error:
10:25:00 Loading Module <$INFORMIXDIR/extend/checksum/idschecksum.so>
10:25:00 (2): The C Language Module
<$INFORMIXDIR/extend/checksum/idschecksum.so> can't load
reason: Cannot access library file
10:25:00 (-1): ERROR: Loading Module
<$INFORMIXDIR/extend/checksum/idschecksum.so>
I have some related issues with idschecksum after migration from 10DC8 to
10FC9 and I solved them executing the script
$INFORMIXDIR/etc/idschecksum.sql on all databases that replicates via ER.
But on solaris box (IDS 11.5) this sql script don't exist, so I copied it
from other machine but know the library idschecksum.so is not present.
Any advices?
Many thanks,
Marc
