Why not write a procedure to convert your strings to use "matches".
For example take the string "Informix"... convert it to
[Ii][Nn][Ff][Oo][Rr][Mm][Ii][Xx]
select * from information where index matches "[Ii][Nn][Ff][Oo][Rr][Mm][Ii][Xx]"
This will eliminate case insensitivity, allow for searches of any words or data
in your
database.
I hope I am giving some help or I may be barking up the wrong tree......
