It's cheaper to use Sybase and you get 60+% > >better performance. > I'm more than happy to answer Michael's question... (But beware its all fact!) SYBASE ASE11.5 Server HP9000 V2200 64bit HP-UX 11 16 X 200 mhz CPU's 16 GB main memory 39,469 TPM-C $94.17/tpmc Price $3,716,795.70 INFORMIX 7.3 Server SGI Origin 2000 server 64bit IRIX 6.4 S2MP 28 X 195 mhz CPU's 13 GB main memory 25,309 TPM-C $139.04/tpmc Price $3,518,963.40 So for an extra $197831.30 or $9.20 a user you can get a HP server that dicks a SGI server. I'm sorry where did you work? Perhaps the sales reps will be very interested that it was an SGI employee that lost them a 3 million$ sale? I note in your sign off on email, that you state you are responsible for your actions. I guess we are all yet to see how responsible you are made to be. I was wondering ... Do SGI know that you "In my spare time I also maintain the Sybase FAQ for comp.databases.sybase and I'll occasionally post there any tidbits I hear while planting shrubs around SGI." (Quoted from your webpage) and piss off 8000+ people that have an influence when dicussions are made when buying hardware? In what publication did you read "Informix TPC-C benchmark was done with row leveling locking set on every table in the database" or is this just a case of a WAG on your part? If there is one positive thing that comes from this thread it is my company's choice to buy HP instead of SGI has been backed up by an SGI employee. So thank you from the bottom of my heart, now crawl back under the rock or in your case go smoke another shrub! Cheers, Tony.
