IIUG 2008 survey for new features
Posted in 2008
Topics: General Discussion
The IIUG has put online another new features survey for IDS. You can find it here: http://www.iiug.org/2008_survey For all the people complaining, this is a good opportunity to expose your thoughts. Besides the proposed features specified in the survey you can add your own suggestions... And there's a comment box about benchmarks :) Further ideas about this: http://informix-technology.blogspot.com/2008/10/iiug-2008-survey-again-time-to-speak-up.html Regards. -- Fernando Nunes Portugal http://informix-technology.blogspot.com My email works... but I don't check it frequently...

Fascinating survey. I didn't respond as that would have been unfair but
I did read the questions. Again: Fascinating.
While so many of you trumpet loudly the features of Informix, though
you don't seem to ever name them, the survey clearly indicates a strong
desire to create for the first time features that have been in other
products for many generations. Here, for example, are some from the
first page:
Add ability for dbaccess LOAD statement to commit every N rows to avoid
long transactions
Add ability to automatically capture detailed information on all deadlocks
Add ability to change a disabled index to enabled without requiring an
index rebuild
Add ability to change the user of an existing connection (i.e. connect
as jsmith and change user to jdoe)
Add ability to perform an online table reorg
Add ability to perform in-place alter for tables with VARCHAR columns
All of these have existed in Oracle for a very long time.

Of course you didn't.

All the external load utilities have this option. It's not any kind of
issue for me, and it never has been in 20 (very) odd years of use.

I've never seen a deadlock in 20-odd years. Maybe Oracle programmers are
just shit?

Discrete transactions have also existed in Oracle for a very long time.
How many people have they helped?

Hello Daniel,
have you tryed update statistics high in obstacle...
ougrhhhh yikes what a piece of shit to figure out the syntax..
Superboer.
BTW why don't you go and answer questions in the obstacle group
instead of pissing on informix.
We know what the state of informix is and what you think of it; you
made that already very clear.
