NetWorker

Hi, I am looking for a way (script? command?) to shutdown Informix before a NetWorker backup and startup Informix after the backup is completed. I see in the man pages a command "savepnpc." Would I use this? If so, how do I implement this. My supervisor is thinking that a cron with savefs and the informix commands would work on the client and then when the backup server does it's scheduled backup of the client it will back up the completed savesets from this cron... Any help or suggestions are hugely appreciated! Thanks, Tiffany L. Hopper System Administrator IMS-Net Corporation http://www.imsn.net Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/ Before you buy.
In our NetWorker installation (unix), NetWorker calls a script that contains
the onbar commands that backup Informix. In that script there is a place to
put pre and post backup commands.
We enhanced the script to issue a warning to users (wall), then place
Informix in graceful shutdown mode. Then we onstat -u, extract the login
name, trace back to their login pid and issue a kills. Finally, if Informix
is not in quiescent, we force it their and begin the backup. After backup
runs a while, we bring Informix back online (cron job) and start nightly
posting. Sometime in the wee hours nightly backup and posting finishes.
We could have used the NetWorker script to bring the engine back online too.
