Thanks for the tip. Alas, the table is already fragmented across four high-speed RAID LUNs. No, the key to the performance problem seems to be the number of constraints and indexes that live on the table. If I insert the records with these enabled, it takes about 14 minutes per hundred thousand. With them disabled, it takes about two to three minutes to insert the same number of records. Unfortunately, when I re-enable the disabled constraints, it takes an hour, so disabling them doesn't buy me much.
