RE: IDS 10 Download?

Maybe I need to read more about the other vendors (IBM, etc.), but I don't think SUN is that far behind (if they are). Went to a SUN presentation end of last year, about their new hardware range, cpu's etc. - very cool stuff. And Solaris, simple & robust - very stable platform to run on. Yes really. Name one thing Solaris has that is so important that you have to have Solaris and can't do what you want with Linux or perhaps AIX. If you need a real-time UNIX, there may be something out there for the niche market, but Sun really has little to offer that is significant enough to buy their stuff instead of open system offerings. Sun has trouble in other areas besides their totally irrelevant OS, they are way behind the curve on their processors, which pale in comparison to the new Power series from IBM. Sun also swore they wouldn't do so many things--and now they are now doing, and even sucking up to Microsoft just to try to get some market relevance. Even Java is up for grabs as the open source community is even going after Java in an open source version. Sun is done. And HP, they really need to just give up on computers and stick to printers. Carly should have gone out on top, but er, well, anyway that's fodder for the clown... sending to informix-list
