How many users, what sort of work, how much data? The tape drive selection depends on how much you have to back up. If it's just for personal use or a relatively small user base, a PC running Linux will be fine, if you're going to be running a couple of hundred users, look to HP, IBM or Sun (in any order :-) NT is (still) a pile of smelly brown stuff, and there isn't a W2K port yet.
