I'm amazed. I didn't read OTC's post prior to sending off my own response. I thought OTC was going to call me a goat fscker or something equally insulting. :-P > Personally, I am not overwhelmed with the efforts of whoever in IBM is > marketing Informix, whether they be male, female, black, white, green or > indeed blue, straight, gay or transgender. > > In fairness, I am not sure how much more they could achieve given the > mass of the corporate rock, under which they are crushed. > Well that's the thing. In spite of the difficulties, there is still a lot more that could be done. True, IBM's overall marketing is geared towards 'selling' the IBM brand at the corporate level. They want to sell a concept of a 'solution' and not a specific division or pillar within a division. I can understand and appreciate the logic behind that. But one does not have to do a big budget advertising campaign to market Informix. Frankly I and others have sent private messages to these individuals explaining what they can do to build momentum and 'mindshare' (Q rating) in a targeted audience. Please note the following: Its not just Gumby but *others* who are making suggestions, so this isn't just an issue of 'Gumby knows best', but the IDS user community providing feedback on what we see globally concerning the adoption of IDS as part of the solution. The trick is doing something while facing the constraints imposed upon them by the 'beast'. If I can see a set of solutions, then isn't it reasonable to expect these two highly promoted individuals to be able to see it too? After all, they're VPs! So one would expect that they were promoted because of their abilities and not because they were women and IBM needs women in executive positions. No? -G _________________________________________________________________ Hotmail® is up to 70% faster.
