If you disk is newly installed you should reboot your system using one of the following methods. a- At boot prompt >n ok boot -r b- while system running touch /reconfigure shutdown -i6 -g60 (NOTE: always remember to back up !!! and check the target number) Assuming that your system finds all disks and there are some raw disks for Informix dbspaces. a- Raw disks (/dev/rdsk/c#t#d#s#) - look under /dev/rdsk directory for the raw partition - make a ln -s from /dev to /dev/rdsk/c#t#d#s# partition b- Cooked disks (/dev/dsk/c#t#d#s#) - similar to other Unix system ! - more information at /etc/vfstab (NOTE: you can have both raw and cooked partitions on the same PHYSICAL DISK on different partitions (slices). If you "newfs" a partition (or slices) it become a cooked filesystem) ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- example: 1- Determine available disks # format AVAILABLE DISK SELECTIONS: 1. c2t3d0 <SUN2.1G cyl 2733 alt 2 hd 19 sec 80> /iommu@f,e0000000/sbus@f,e0001000/dma@2,81000/esp@2,80000/sd@3,0 2. c2t4d0 <QUANTUM XP34301 cyl 4202 alt 2 hd 20 sec 100> /iommu@f,e0000000/sbus@f,e0001000/dma@2,81000/esp@2,80000/sd@4,0 2- Allocate disk spaces: a- entire disk for Informix usages (use slice number 2) ln /dev/rdsk/c2t3d0s2 /dev/infx_dbs b- assigning slice number 6 for Informix usages ln /dev/rdsk/c2t4d0s7 /dev/infx_logs (NOTE: use "format" to partition, "newfs" to make new file system, /etc/vfstab to add/modify mount partition, DO NOT "newfs" slice which you would like to use as raw) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- LAST NOTE: You might wonder what is /dev/rdsk/c2t4d0s7 means ? ... Well, should read SUN Solaris documentation. Here is a brief explanation. c# : controller number (your internal io controller start at 0) t# : target number (if you use SCSI bus) d# : disk number s# : slices (0-7: slice 2 is entire disk) - Be careful when using "format" ... Don't say "yes" to anything you are not sure of the consequences.
