It seems like more and more often these days that I'm replying to someone that an FAQ listing for this newsgroup does not exist, at least not publicly. Several people have mentioned starting one, but none have surfaced to date. One possible reason for this is that in actuality there may not be that many questions out of all that are asked here that are truly repeated. Another reason, this one probable, is that it's a heck of a lot of work to create and maintain a good FAQ listing. What would you put in an Informix FAQ? Would it be things already in the Informix manuals? Tips & tricks? Undocumented features? If anyone has gone so far as to create a list of just the questions, I'd like to see a copy. If you are looking for information on a particular topic, you may find help by looking in the anonymous FTP archive on mathcs.emory.edu (IP 128.140.2.1). Not only are there directories of code, scripts, etc.; but there is also an archive of nearly all messages posted to this newsgroup and to the Informix mailing list. Some periodic postings or those of only transient interest are not archived. Messages are indexed numerically and by subject. Get the file /pub/informix/list/README, and go from there. >Also do you happen to know the Informix IP address? Informix is not on the Internet (Oracle, Ingres and Sybase are, BTW). Several people within Informix have said that they plan to be on the Net some time in the future. However, when Jim Hendrickson, Informix's VP of Customer Services, spoke to our local user group, he indicated that he wanted to focus on InformixLink in the near term. Internet access would come some time later. Given that the Internet is running out of IP address numbers for medium- sized organizations, Informix might want to make that more "sooner" than "later." The Net will certainly come up with some solution to this problem, but there may be a period when applications for new access experience long delays while things get sorted out.
