It's in 4.10.UF1 (and higher) versions of OnLine, and in a few U[DE][2-9] versions as well. Check your machine-specific notes in $INFORMIXDIR/release for an entry under "bug 10990". If it's there, then sortindex capability exists. I just checked the on-line doc files, and it's not mentioned for the 4.10 releases, so it's an undocumented feature in 4.10 (oops). Check with your support rep to see if its usable on your platform, and if so, s/he can tell you how to activate it.
