Informix Data Blade Module
Posted in 2013
A user on IDS 11.70 (HP-UX/Linux) wanted to speed up text searching from a Java application and asked where to download, install and configure an Informix DataBlade (he was looking for the old Excalibur text blade). Respondents pointed him to the Basic Text Search (BTS) DataBlade, which ships with the server at no extra cost and, from 11.50/11.70 onward, registers and configures itself automatically the first time it is used (e.g. when creating a BTS index). They supplied Information Center / Database Extensions User's Guide links with examples, noting BTS suits text fields and fuzzy, phrase, soundex and synonym searches rather than plain B-tree indexing.

How to install and configure informix datablade module step by step? where i can download informix datablade module? it free or required license to download this. Currently we use ids 11.70.fc1 on hp-ux and linux Please help.. tq
Which datablade? If you are talking about the Basic Text Search (BTS) datablade, it was included and installed with your server and it will automatically register itself into any database when you first reference its features (so create a BTS index for example). Go to 11.70 Infocenter: http://pic.dhe.ibm.com/infocenter/idshelp/v117/index.jsp If you are looking for free Text Search, go to Extending Informix > Informix Extensions and DataBlade modules > Database Extensions User's Guide > Basic Text Search If you are looking for others, go to other folders. Hope this help --weiming
hi, Actually i try to look for Excalibur datablade module. Basic Text Search (BTS)? it can improve my performance? if BTS already register, how to check BTS and how to uses this? Can your give me some sample for BTS? Right now we still using btree index. Please advice us tq
Hello. Any basic information about datablades can be obtained from Information Center website: http://pic.dhe.ibm.com/infocenter/informix/v121/topic/com.ibm.extendnode.doc/ext dbm.htm BTS indexes are recommended to index text fields, and mainly to enable advanced search features (eg soundex searches, phrase matching, exact and fuzzy searches, compensation for misspelling, and synonym matching). See the Database Extensions Users Guide PDF manual or this link to the v1170 Information Center pages for details: http://pic.dhe.ibm.com/infocenter/idshelp/v117/index.jsp?topic=%2Fcom.ibm.dbext. doc%2Fids_dbxt_175.htm It is probably not registered already, but for version 11.50 and later it will automatically register itself when you first use it in a database. Hi, There is a link to Database Extensions User's Guide on the infocenter page in the last email: http://pic.dhe.ibm.com/infocenter/informix/v121/topic/com.ibm.extendnode.doc/ext dbm.htm that contains the user guide to BTS and contains some expamples. This is a good starting point. Before 11.70 there is some setup in the server required before you could use BTS. Starting in 11.70, BTS is automatically configured on first use in a database (like creating a bts index), My blog also contains some discussions of some BTS features of BTS (link below). -- Mark.
