Various stuff I have kicking around

Recently, I finished coding a large application for our textbooks system at our University Book Store. For the reports, we used 4GL to get the parameters from the user, then called a simple runner than ran an *ace* report in the background. In this way, the user was allowed to continue with other projects while the program was compiling, yet still had an easy way to specify the parameters and such. This has enabled users to queue up four or five reports and leave their terminal to work on other things. <Shrug> I don't know if this is so incredibly obvious that noone has ever thought of it, or if I should mention it to others that would be interested. Notes: If anyone is having difficulty with their RDS compiler with the sqlbreak() function (I know it's broken on a 80x86 running Xenix), I modified the compile script to include the libraries in the *correct* order. Mail me if you want copies of it. If anyone is having difficulty with the sqlbreak() function that appeared in the Tech Notes not setting the int_flag, I have an incredibly ugly workaround (the sqlbreak() function allows the interrupt key to interrupt a query, like SQL does). I don't know if it's all versions of RDS or just afreomentioned Xenix versions, but if you set int_flag in a C function it does not get set in the 4GL program. I have a Makefile that will make compiled and interpreted run-times. However, on our system the RDS and compiled versions are on two different machines, and I use a "-D`uuname -l`" to define the machine name in the C programs, allowing for sections to be included/excluded (like fgiusr.h) that do not apply. If you use both on the same machine, you will have to do something differently. I have C functions that return the width and height of the currently opened window, which is useful in generic screen display routines. I have a C function that will do a timeout of an INPUT statement (this one is trivial. If you're interested in the above, please mail me. If there is enough interest for any of the items, I'll post 'em here. Lee Brintle | ``And so, I leave you with this final word: Leepfrog / Tanj | twang.''
