Translating with DrWatson… this can take a few seconds the first time.
This is a genuine, complex translation. DrWatson protects commands, error codes, and log output while naturally translating the surrounding text. It’s translated once and saved.
A DBA asked the group to help build a checklist of things to check when an Informix instance appears to freeze (his starting points: full logical logs, LRU/page cleaners, open file limits, chunk status). No single fault or fix is involved; replies added diagnostic suggestions: confirm the instance is actually running, check checkpoint duration and whether a user is hung in a critical section during CHKPT REQ (noting LBU_PRESERVE leaves one log free), free chunk space, locks/deadlocks via onstat -u, long-transaction rollbacks, mutex waits (onstat -g lmx), shared-memory dumps/assert failures, NETTYPE sizing for user load, and AFDEBUG settings; run onstat -g stk all and onstat -a before calling Tech Support. One poster suggested collating the answers into the FAQ. No specific resolution is recorded.

Hi,
- check the duration of current Checkpoint.
- free space in your chunks.
- check locks of a specific user with 'onstat -u'
...
Regards,
Andi

Run "onstat -g stk all" & "onstat -a". Call Tech
Support after that. These two commands collect enough
for them to look that what might have caused the
problem.

If in CHPT REQ check that there is not a user in a critical section that is
itself hung.

If you have LBU_PRESERVE remember one log will be free when hung!

A few other things to check....
Make sure your instance isn't rolling back from a long
transaction...
Check to see if you are in a deadlock situation..
Use onstat -g lmx (on 9.x anyway) to make sure you aren't running
into a mutex lock bug.
If you have Shared memory dumps turned on and run into an Assert
Fail, it could take a while for the dump to finish.
Make sure that Nettype is high enough for the amount of users that
are accessing the database..(It can sometimes seem hung).
Check to see if AFDEBUG is set to 1...

The FAQ was mentioned further up my screen. Perhaps the replies to this
item could be collated for inclusion....
