Hi I am trying to get the Informix 7.3 IDS client libs and tools to work on FreeBSD. I have been trying the Linux port with Linux emulation on our servers. However we are having no luck. The Linux emu is working: StarOffice runs. My problem. 1. when using rpm to install one of the scripts crash. This happens when a Informix utility "brand" tries to brand the binaries with serial nos and keys. 2. I get round this and can install ok without it (using brand) - but am worried about this. 3. I can link the Informix client libs. 4. BUT most of the binaries seg fault. This includes the all important esqlc and infxmsg Oh we are using FreeBSD 3.4 Any ideas.. thaks Nisan Bloch

So this doesn't prove that you can run Linux glibc2 (aka libc6) executables. Compile a simple program on a Linux glibc2 system and try to run it and if it crashes, there's your problem. > My problem. > > 1. when using rpm to install one of the scripts crash. In particular the libcrypt associated to it. If you install for example on a libc5 distribution such as Slackware 4 or 5 you also have to do a lot of work (installing extra libc) so that Informix brand can work (because it is linked against different libraries, dynamically). Easiest solution is to use Slackware 7.1 and Informix runs beautifully on it. You could try to copy over glibc libraries from a > 2. I like FreeBSD (although you could run 4.1 with IPsec/IPv6 instead of 3.4!) but in this case I think you could use a BSD like Linux distribution like Linux Slackware and have less trouble. Use Slackware! But if it is absolutely necessary to get things working on FreeBSD then I think you could best copy over the glibc libc6 libraries, especially the crypt stuff. Also I believe FreeBSD uses MD5 by default for its /etc/passwd and Informix doesn't seem to work nicely with MD5. Try to use DES with the cryptdes libraries for glibc2 ...

I get errors when ld tries to find libdl. Its on all the paths. > >On Tue, 21 Nov 2000, Nisan wrote: > >> I am trying to get the Informix 7.3 IDS client libs and tools to work on >> >> FreeBSD. Hi Thanks. Sorted out. Problem was resolved by installing FreeBSD 4.1.1. There was no need to modify ldconf files. installed 4.1 installed linux_base installed linux_devtools turned on emu in the kernel rather than rc.conf set path to look in compat/linux before the freebsd binaries set INFORMIXDIR set LD_PATH, LD_RUN_PATH set ldconfig to look in /compart/linux....... for libs and used rpm with --ignore-os to install the client sdk.. works like a charm On Wed, 22 Nov 2000 21:13:49 GMT, David Stes <stes@pandora.be> wrote: > >On Tue, 21 Nov 2000, Nisan wrote: > >> I am trying to get the Informix 7.3 IDS client libs and tools to work on >> >> FreeBSD.
