ontape fails via pipe
Posted in 1999
Hi group,
we've always been doing backup/restore to disk using ontape in our
development-system. As dbspaces were growing, a few years ago we've
hit the 2 GB-file-size-limit. (BTW, I've never understood how UNIX can
read from bigger 'files' on tape but not on disk). So, what we did was
easy: ontape to disk via pipes. This always worked fine (again, what I
don't understand:) and we had the possibility to do additional work
like compress, ....
Hovever, since we've upraded to 7.30 we've experienced, that ontapes
to pipe can't be restored any more. Ontape complains about invalid
tape format. It isn't possible to restore either, if we write the file
onto a tape and restore from there.
Has anyone ideas, what has changed?
